Pre-Electronic/ First Slots

The first slot was invented in 1895 by Charles Fey and was named the Liberty Bell. During 1920-30s the slots were becoming very popular. The new improved models appeared year by year, though all of them were mechanical. The first slots generation got the name New Nickel Machines.

Invention of Electronic Slots

Things couldn’t get any better for the slot manufactures if not the anti-gambling movement and resolutions, launched by the US Government. Companies that produced slots started to suffer from different prohibitions. That sad situation with gambling in the United States couldn’t but affect the popularity of the slots. Not only they disappeared from local bars and salons, they started to lose their popularity. Still, the slot manufactures didn’t want to give up and continued their constant work on the improvement of slots. They had to invent something really cool and unique to return that huge popularity of slots and give them the second birth.

The Electronic Age of Slots

The electronic age of slots came in 1960s. That was a revolutionary moment in the whole slots machine industry. Because of the limitations the mechanical slots had, when the reels were stopped, they appeared to be very vulnerable to player manipulations. The first electronic slot machines were made to provide more security, though they weren’t still cheat-proof. Also they provided more variations from the operator’s standpoint: the operator had a better control and could offer bigger prizes and jackpots. It is not surprising that it made them very appealing to the players.

New electronic slots not only returned their popularity but attracted hundreds of new players. One of the famous electronic slots was Twenty-One Machine, presented by Nevada Electronics in 1964. For the first time in the history of slots the machines were equipped with chairs for 2-4 players. The electronic slots weren’t so easy to cheat as the mechanic slots as they consisted of mechanical parts. The new slots, in their turn, consisted of microprocessors and other electric devices. The other advantage of the new slots was their size and weight – they decreased noticeably.
