Bell's Variations

Just after the first ever slot machine was invented, the demand for them started to grow with the immense speed.  Considering that fact, Charles Fey, the inventor of Liberty Bell – the first slot machine, has joined the leading slots/vending machines manufacturer Mills Novelty Company. Together they created different improved variations of the legendary Liberty Bell slot machine. Their first invention was Mills Liberty Bell, followed by the Operator Bell and Silent Bell.

The Operator Bell

The Operator Bell was created around 1910s. It was a slight variation of Liberty Bell – three reel mechanic slot machine.  Though it had some innovative features, still it was very heavy:  its weight was over 100 pounds. Nevertheless, Operator Bell’s neck coin entry was better fitting and the main innovative and distinctive feature – it had fruit symbols, depicted on each reel (The Liberty Bell had diamonds, spades, hearts, horseshoes and liberty bells). There were about 30,000 of such slot machines produced at that time.

The new kind of slot cabinet and its themes

Charles Fey continued to work hard on new slots. No one couldn’t imagine but admitted that his work was rather successive. During the period of time of 1915-1930 Mills Novelty together with Fey created the series of new slots with  much noticeable improvements, both in look and technology. Iron cabinets were replaced with the cheaper ones - wooden cabinets. The famous cabinet themes of those times were the Lion Head, the War Eagle, The Roman Head and Castle Front presented later in 1933.

The Silent Bell

If to speak about technical innovations, some of them really can be called revolutionary. First of all a new generation of Bell Slot Machines had a doubled jackpot which meant a player could win twice in a one quick game session. Secondly, the machines of that period became much quieter, for that, actually, they had got their name – The Silent Bell slot machines.
